PROJECT 4 // WATER MARBLING NOTECARDS & ENVELOPES

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

ever wandered around on pinterest for so long that you start seeing the same thing over and over? this is how i stumbled upon water marbling. with nail polish. what? people do crazy things with nail polish but i am one who has every dang color of the rainbow and hardly ever wear nail polish anymore so this was seriously perfect.
for the supplies, i used a plastic container from the cooking aisle (honestly mine was the cover of an aluminum pan), nail polish, warmish water, white envelopes and toothpicks. fill the pan with luke warm water. if it's to cold the polish will sink straight to the bottom and if it's too warm it will turn sticky before you even have a chance to swirl it so it takes a little trial and error.

drizzle the nail polish into the pan. if your temperature is around the right temp, your polish should kind of float on the top. once you have both (or however many colors you are putting in there) colors in the pan, take the toothpick and swirl the colors around until you get the design you want.

lay the paper on just the top of the water and press down just a little so the paint will catch onto the paper. maybe two or three seconds; you definitely don't need to dunk the paper into the water. the trick to picking it up without having the extra clumps ruin your marbling is to pick it up straight up (leaving the paper upside down) and let the extra hang there for a second or two. peel off the access clumps before flipping the paper over and laying it down. trust me, i could have saved myself a lot of frustration and paper if someone had mentioned this earlier.

i started this whole process with just doing envelopes and i became obsessed with it. then i busted out the card stock and day two of water marbling happened. i have a feeling this won't be the last thing i marble. let me know if you give this a try. i would love to know how yours turn out! but be warned, it's completely addicting!
